About Us

Sennocke Cricket Club was formed by the local Civil Defence Force and Air Raid Wardens during the dark days of 1942. The team also included local school teachers – a tradition that has carried on to the present day. Fort Halstead provided us with some top talent and we had several local well known businessmen who also helped fund the club during it’s heyday.

Sennocke members are always extremely grateful to the Sackville-West family who continue to allow cricket in their “back garden”. We are also lucky that the family loves cricket and provides us with playing family members who are actually excellent cricketers.

Many a big night was had in the Tithe Barn that forms the changing room and bar area under the House! Things are obviously different these days with the team looking after themselves and maintaining a healthy lifestyle with protein smoothies and energy bars (that last statement might be a little bit fanciful!).

The club was one of the largest in the area during the 1970’s, but fell on hard times when the large junior section migrated to another team in the Sevenoaks area. It was downhill for a while until a small bunch of (reasonably young at the time!) players kept the club going – sometime fielding only 8 or 9 (very good) players. Most of the time the matches were friendlies, but as the club rebuilt it’s membership depth, league cricket resumed, and the club became competitive and an attractive place to play.

We now play in the fantastic Kent County Village League – we have won divisions and we have been relegated, but we always (mostly) enjoy ourselves.

If you’re looking for a fun and magnificent place to play cricket in Sevenoaks you’ve found the right corner of the web!

Essential Reading…

Sennocke CC features in the Remarkable Village Cricket Grounds by Brian Levison.

There are some beautiful village cricket grounds documented in the book. Even though Sennocke CC plays in Knole Park – not really a village – seeing our majestic ground in a book certainly makes the whole thing a whole lot more entertaining (particularly for us!).

If you don’t really like reading you can just look at the pretty pictures.

The book is available at Amazon and will sit proudly on any bookshelf or coffee table.
